ABOUT THE ART

I'll leave you with a couple of entries from my painting journal which has guided me along the way.

Music is a vehicle for poetry.  It's the same with paint.

I want the viewer to walk up to the painting and feel like they could write a poem, even if they've never written a verse.

Life speaks in the language of chaos, but it also speaks in rhythms.

In choosing a composition and in the application of the paint I want to capture the feeling of life.  Life is chaotic and churning, but it in ebbs and flows in big movements.  Elements fit into each other.  I turned to an impressionist style to capture the light and atmosphere as it moves around us.  I keep the shapes dynamic, simple, and in balance.

Make artwork that is reaching for anyone who is reaching back.

The viewer should see things know one else sees because no one has had life experiences like them.  The painting should connect with them on a personal level.

Use your whole mind to make a painting.

The superego, philosophical, chooses the concept. The ego, practical, designs the composition. The id, animalistic, attacks the canvas.
