The Material World

By one intangible metric, our century will be defined by the see-saw balance between materialism and our connection with nature and the spirit.   These paintings attempt to capture that relationship.

Guiding Lights

Emotionally complex paintings of people in solitude surrounded by a radiant light.  Some of these characters are unaware of the light. Some face it directly.

Brutality Refined

We may attempt to separate ourselves from that which is "undesirable", but these paintings bring an ugly and sometimes visceral truth about human nature to the refined surface of an oil painting.  The subject matter usually takes the  form of food.

City Witness

An artist should reflect their time and place.  In this spirit I bring the city, its people, and its moments to the canvas.

Be an advocate for contemplation.

I find there is beauty in being alone, undistracted, and rich with the space needed to consider our moment in time.

Life speaks in the language of chaos, but it also speaks in rhythms.

In choosing a composition and in the application of the paint I want to capture the feeling of life.  Life is chaotic and churning, but it in ebbs and flows in big movements.  Elements fit into each other.  I turned to an impressionist style to capture the light and atmosphere as it moves around us.  I keep the shapes dynamic, simple, and in balance.

Make artwork that is reaching for anyone who is reaching back.

The viewer should see things that no one else sees because no one has had life experiences like them.  The painting should connect with them on a personal level.

Music is a vehicle for poetry.  It should be the same with paint.
